Abstract:

In recent years, with the deepening integration of medicine and engineering and advances in thermometry and temperature-control technologies, whole-body hyperthermia (WBH) has attracted increasing attention. Unlike local hyperthermia, WBH elevates the temperature of the entire body, thereby not only subjecting the lesion site to heat stress but also fully mobilizing the host’s immune responses at multiple sites and through multiple pathways, thus broadly regulating body metabolism to exert therapeutic effects. With its unique advantages, WBH has become a frontier hotspot in hyperthermia research. To date, a growing body of basic and clinical evidence has confirmed the therapeutic potential and efficacy of WBH in the treatment of both oncologic and non-oncologic conditions. Against this background, the expert consensus focuses on summarizing key points including the definition and classification of WBH, its antitumor mechanisms, clinical implementation techniques, complications, and management principles, with the aim of providing guidance for the clinical application and promotion of WBH.
