Abstract:

Fundus gland polyp is the most common type of gastric polyp, which occurs in middle-aged and elderly people over the age of 50. The incidence of gastric polyp is increasing year by year. Proton pump inhibitors are the first-line drugs for the treatment of acid related diseases of the digestive system, the present study found that it can lead to the onset of fundic gland polyps. In addition, aging is risk factor of fundus gland polyps, which may be related to gastric aging. However, studies have shown that the elderly stomach still has a good secretion of acid function, suggesting that the elderly prone to fundus gland polyps may be associated with high incidence of gastroesophageal reflux, and the usage of proton pump inhibitors. Although Helicobacter pylori infection may cause gastritis, peptic ulcer, gastric lymphoma lymphoproliferative disease, studies show that it is a protective factor of fundic gland polyps, which may be related to gastric gland atrophy. In addition, recent studies have shown that fundus gland polyps occurrence is correlated with colorectal cancer, and patients with fundus gland polyps should undergo colonoscopy screening for colorectal cancer or adenomatous polyps. Treatment of the fundus gland polyps is considered to stop proton pump inhibitors. If accompanied by abnormal hyperplasia, endoscopic resection should be considered, and the prognosis is good.
