Abstract:

Objective

To observe the effect of rhodiola bungeana pill in the treatment of carotid atherosclerotic (CAS) plaque in the elderly.

Methods

102 elderly patients with CAS admitted to Beijing Chaoyang Hospital from November 2016 to October 2017 were selected. There were 62 patients in the control group, who were treated with conventional antiplatelet, lipid-lowering, antihypertensive and hypoglycemic therapy. There were 60 patients in the observation group, who were treated with rhodiola bungeana pill (2 times/d, 2 pills/time, 6 g/pill). Bilateral carotid ultrasound, blood and urine routine, blood biochemistry and electrocardiogram were performed before and 6 months after treatment in both groups. The thickest common carotid artery or internal carotid artery plaque was taken as the target plaque, and the thickness changes before and after treatment were compared. T test was used to compare the normal distribution measurement data, the rank test was used to compare the phenanthrene normal distribution measurement data, and the χ2 test was used to compare the counting data.

Results

There were no lost patients in both groups. At the end of the follow-up, there were no significant changes in blood routine, urine routine and electrocardiogram between the two groups. In the observation group, the median reduction of target plaque thickness was 0.55 mm, the median decrease of percentage was 14.5%; in the control group, the median reduction of target plaque thickness was 0.05 mm, the median decrease of percentage was 2.5%; there were significant differences in the thickness and decrease of percentage of target plaque between the two groups (P < 0.05). Rhodiola bungeana pill has a certain therapeutic effect and can reduce the plaque of CAS in the elderly.
