Research progress of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs on the gastrointestinal tract of the elderly

Abstract:

NSAIDs are widely used clinically, especially in old patients because of their excellent effects on anti-inflammation, defervescence, analgesia and so on. However, the side-effects of NSAIDs cannot be ignored. In this paper, we reviewed the literatures on NSAIDs in the past ten years, and made a brief introduction NSAIDs background, classification, mechanisms of both the effects and the side-effects. We also summarized the clinical characteristics of gastrointestinal adverse reactions caused by NSAIDs and the ways how to prevent the side-effects in the elderly.
